GCFtools for UNIX systems

Current Release Version: 1.6.4 August 7, 2002

GCFtools news:

The GCFtools software suite now supports the new Guralp 6TD instrument. Please grab the latest release to use the new dfdextract program and updated gcfconv program. dfdextract allows users to extract GCF images off of 6TD field disks using Solaris or Linux. Another new feature of GCFtools is the ability of gcfclient to reliably pull data from a DM connected to a Lantronix MSS100 Terminal Server. Included in Release v1.6.1 is a copy of gcf2ew which allows users on Solaris systems to feed data from a DM digitizer connected to a MSS100 or via direct serial into the EarthWorm processing software.

Release v1.4: ISTI proudly announces the release of the GCF PASSCAL Database Tools. These programs allow for importing data from a Guralp DM24 digitizer into the   PASSCAL DataBase (PDB) . Guralp users now have the full suite of freely redistributable, open source PASSCAL seismic processing tools at their disposal. The PASSCAL software allows the user to accomplish many tasks, include writing  Full SEED  volumes as well as the the many viewing and organizational tools. The programs for loading the data into the PDB as part of the standard ISTI GCF distribution (GCFtools ).

An overview of how to use the GCF/PDB Tools is available.

UNIX style Man pages are now available online.

GCFtools Summary:

The GCFtools software suite provides the user with a complete solution to data acquisition using the Guralp SAM/DM or 6TD digitizer modules under the UNIX operating system. Presently the software suite is written for use under SunOS, Solaris, and Linux. The current version of the software provides the following capabilities:
  • GCF data path to the PASSCAL DataBase (PDB) under UNIX.
  • GCF data acquisition via serial communications under UNIX.
  • Reliable GCF data feed to Earthworm using gcf2ew under Solaris.
  • GCF data acquisition via MSS100 Lantronix Terminal Servers - Internet enable and reliably receive GCF packets from remote field sites.
  • UNIX to Windows (SCREAM) connectivity via Internet or Local Area Network using TCP/IP. Transmit Windows acquired data to a UNIX host or vice versa.
  • GCF data conversion to common seismic formats such as miniSEED, AH, PASSCAL-SEGY, and SAC.
  • UNIX access to data written on SAM/DM SCSI disks.
  • UNIX access to data written on 6TD DFD SCSI disks.
  • UNIX client/server capability - allows user to reliably transmit GCF data between UNIX hosts for conversion and archiving.
  • C Language Application Programming Interface (API) - a C library with documentation for programmers to use under UNIX.
  • Complete UNIX manual pages documentation for all utilities. Including a Users Manual in Word and HTML.
